All-School Events

Scholastic Book Fair

Held twice a school year in conjunction with Grandparent and Parent lunch weeks. Profits from each fair are used to purchase books and materials for the library that all students will have access to. On occasion the profits will also be used for author assemblies. Coordinator: PTO
 

Holiday Shoppe

Usually open the second week of December for students to purchase gifts for family and friends. Coordinator: PTO
 

School Speech Contest 

For students in 5th and 6th grade. They take part in researching and writing a speech on a specified topic. Speeches are first heard in the classrooms where winners are selected to participate at a building level contest. The top two finishers will move onto the district level competition. Coordinator: Classroom Teachers
 

Senior Salute 

In May, graduating high school seniors that attended Big Bend Elementary in the past are invited back to celebrate their upcoming high school graduation and share their future plans with the staff. This is an exciting event for both the students and the staff. Coordinator: Graduating Class Parent
 

Spelling Bee 

Every fall students in grades 5 and 6 participate in the National Spelling Bee sponsored by the E.W. Scripps Company and other sponsors. It begins in the classroom with classroom competitions and moves on to building and district level competitions, state, and all the way to the National Competition. Coordinator: Megan Swift
 

Sports Day 

Students in grades 4-6 participate in a variety of track and field events: sprints, relays, distance, and field events. The event is normally held in May. Coordinator: Jordan Lombard
 

Student/Staff Basketball Game 

We host a 6th grade and staff basketball game every spring. This is a very exciting event that our 6th grade students look forward to each school year. Coordinator: Jordan Lombard
